hi all!
i share with you my last project.

this is a very long project i start 2 years ago. for the first time i try to quite all sculpt a pieces.
there are a lot of things i try to study and i hope to write soon an article about the lot of work i do...
i return on my original painting style, with a lot of freehand but i try to make a brutal and furious interpretation, textured and graphical. a mix between gothic, baroque, and dirt... ok very strange ahaha

if you have some question i'm glad to answer to you!

i share with you the pictures (all very big!! so consider the scale :P) of the green and two version of the painted pictures, one in "white" and one in "black", is very difficult to thake a photo of this pieces because of the dark tones and the strange prospective. i think the two background are useful to see sometings different becasue some part of the minis is better in a dark ambient, and some other in a light one... so choose the one you prefer ^^
so the result is not a perfect picture but i hope is comprensible.

Good work, like these Mini a lot!
very fine freehands with a lot of details,
an a clean paintingstyle,
but enough blood, etc, to show,
its a dirty charakter.

Sorry for my bad english

Wow, this one knocks me out really. Two years of work??? *shock* Congrats that it is finished now, lol. Could write a lot about your excellent painting technique, the stunning freehands, the sculpting but most of all the whole scene, what it expresses, touches me deep inside because you matched the evil so well in your creation. I`m struggling for words...it lifes, it has soul and essence, there is something inside your work which can`t be seen but felt, don`t know if one can understand my confused words, lol but what I want to say is: It has this special thing which makes something to a piece of art. Thanks for sharing :-)

I think there should be a golden demon sculpture placed behind this masterpiece
no wait... it should be a platin demon sculpture ;)

I am not going to jump in unreflected with everyone else and I am going to be honest with you, because over the years I always felt I could be honest with you and I know you're going to understand it the way I mean it: supportive and as another view on things - because from 20 "wow" comments one doesnt improve, i had to learn the hard way.

If I am considering what you said it was - a first try at sculpting almost everything on a mini, i would say it's a good start, but there is a lot of room to improve. I'll start by pointing out what i like:

- The torso looks smooth and decently proportioned (one exception, the pectori look a bit odd, a bit hanging, maybe a bit more smoothed in with the rest of the abs and a bit more flat wouldnt have put me off)

- The armor on the left hand looks decent, very stylish, I'd have liked it and it would have gone more with the ancient feel if you tried to do this style on the rest of the armor

- the three plates over the "horseback" look well

where I see room of improvement:

- the rest of the plates looks a bit too bulky, the edges are too thick, they look featureless. sure you wanted to paint the freehands on, but I am not a fan of wandering freehand canvas. and a scupted detail here and there puts a bit of realism in and more refined edges makes it more credible too, imo.

- the fur looks VERY basic and unrefined in some places, like the sides of the horseback and also the hair on the heads hanging down the back (though the pic is a bit blurry there). take a look on how JAG, Freeman, Darkeden or Allan_C work their fur and study it, it will improve your understanding of how to sculpt fur drastically.

- the horns of the armor look too smooth, they look like...rolled gs...not features on an armor, they need a bit of texture (like smited alloy), imo.

- never use the scale as an excuse ;) there is always a finer needle and magnifying glasses ;D ;D

As for the painting, I seriously feel the constant repetition of the same theme (nmm chaos patterns and demon faces on large, flat areas) is keeping your potential down! Of course it is smooth, refined, but it is getting old in a way. I would love to see something fresh, out of the box from you because I KNOW you have the talent.

wish you all the best!

dear Trovarion,
as always i like to have technical comments, more if is an artist like you that give this to me.
all your advice about sculpt are for me really appreciated and i think are correct, in effect i'm absolute NOT a sculpture, as i said is my first attemp to a sculpting project like this, and i have so so so so much things to improve, more also than you say.
so thank you for be honest and fell always free to say what you think about.

for the painting: ok no problem, i know you simply don't like this way of painting, is not a problem, seriously. The only thing i want simply say to you is that this is one of my ways to paint a miniature, and i love make this type of work, but i hope, really, that in this 3 years from my last "freehanded" work, i try to show a lot of different way to paint a miniature, and i hope you see that.

in effect, for this project, i want to return for a moment in my past he he ... is true... :-P
thank you again for your advices, very usefull to me, and i really hope to meet you again somewhere.

best wishes.

Fra

p.s. sorry for my very horrible and quite un-understandable english! i really hope that you understand that i'm absolutely happy of your comments with no type of negative feel!! i say this because is very difficult to me make the right "feel" of the word in english... ave!

yes, sorry, i should have mentioned this is just my way of looking at it, but like you said, you know already http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT_KoKnDDstNwDl14uNu7aQjsqSwLQjk T-stPv1NCLoQChwPVSwLA I didnt mean to offend you with my carelessness. also its perfectly fine to paint for enjoyment, in fact it's the only rule really. and I have to admit I wasn't following coolmini and all that for ~2 years so I probably have missed most of your stuff too!

also, yes, I understand you are only just getting into sculpting and I would love to see more of it soon =)

non ho parlato italiano per ....5? anni, ho bisognio di andare a italia un'altra volta =) see my italian sucks by now! haha... your english is fine!
